Summer Term 1

Y1 - Rubbish

Summer is here! Well almost, the sun is still shining, and Spring is in full bloom. Our topic this term is ‘Where does our rubbish go? – from Junk to Jewells.’ We will be learning about how we can make a difference to our world through our English and Topic lessons, we will continue to explore the seasonal changes within our environment and investigate different movements and games in PE.

In English we are exploring texts about recycling and looking after our planet. We will be persuading and creating posters, researching and recording information in report writing and creating poems.

In Maths we are multiplying and dividing by sharing and grouping. Exploring fractions, numbers to 100 and time.

In Topic we are investigating materials, naming and sorting, classifying and grouping. Looking at the properties of materials and designing our own costumes from recycled materials.

If you have any spare time and would like to come into class to hear readers or have any ‘Where does our rubbish go?’ expertise such as working in recycling or use of materials then please speak to the class teachers.

Just a few reminders-every child must bring a named water bottle and PE kit into school. PE lessons are on a Monday and Thursday. The children continue to bring reading books home and we encourage you to read as much as possible with your child at home, there is a raffle for those children who read at least 3 times a week and get their record book signed. Books are changed on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday as long as the reading diary is signed.

If you ever have any concerns or worries please do not hesitate to contact us. We are on the door in the mornings and we can arrange an appointment for after school when we will have more time to discuss any issues.

Look out for the Newsletter and Home Learning information in Home Learning Books.

Spring Term 2

The sun is shining and Spring is in the air, as we continue to explore the Seasonal changes and we enjoy looking at the daffodils growing just like our learning. This term’s topic is ‘Down on the Farm’, we will be exploring animals and where our food comes from. We are going to develop our knowledge of nonfiction and fiction writing through texts such as ‘Squash and Squeeze’ and by learning about groups of animals and food chains. Please look at our Spring Term Newsletter for more information.

Each class are working towards a reward, marbles and gold coins can be collected for making the right choices and following our class rules- talk to your child about the choices they have made today and how close they are to the class reward.

If you have any spare time and would like to come into class to hear readers or have any ‘Down on the Farm’ expertise please speak to the class teachers.
