Jewell Academy Phase 2

DSCF0056Staff and pupils at Jewell Academy are incredibly excited as their new build comes close to completion.

The Academy opened in September 2013 in part of a previous school building, which had been completely remodelled and refurbished. There are currently 3 very large classrooms, a nurture room, a spacious hall, offices and after school club facilities.
The pupils currently use an attractive outside area to the front of the Academy for playtimesOutside Area and outside learning, this will soon become a dedicated space just for Reception pupils, while older children will have two playgrounds, a large field and two multi use games areas. There are also two courtyards, one has already been transformed into a gardening area with the help of LV= volunteers, and the second will become a sensory garden.
The new two storey building will be joined to the current building, and will include another 14 generously sized classrooms, changing rooms, a library, rooms for small group work, a food technology room, and a second hall which will be perfect for music, dance and drama. The current building will become a dedicated space for Reception pupils, providing an outstanding, supportive learning environment for our youngest pupils.
The build has been relatively quick, with works starting in February 2014, and most of the large modular building being craned into position during the Easter holidays. It was built in sections off site, and then driven to the area on 78 large lorries over 3 weeks. Children and staff at the Academy have had a chance to view the building works and have been very excited to watch the development of the project.
