Writing Witches

Rubies had some very exciting visitors from Bournemouth University today - the Writing Witches! Together we uncovered the recipe for making a story and the magic spell needed to make them happen. The Writing Witches helped the children plan a magical story which they will finish writing in class. We will be entering these into a competition so watch this space...! Ancient Greek Day

Year 4 travelled back in time to Ancient Greece when they created a "play in  a day". Pupils impressed with their ancient costumes before taking part in a dramatic depiction of Ancient Greece, full of fascinating facts about that period in history. Working in groups, children rehearsed different parts of the drama with the visiting professional actor, before taking part in the full performance with the rest of the year group and teachers watching. All the pupils enjoyed taking part and dressing up for the occasion. Please click here to see our photos.

Church Visit

Year 4 visited St Mark's Church ahead of this half-term's RE topic about the story of Christmas. Children learned about the Christmas story in the beautiful surroundings of the church, including searching for the all of the important landmarks of the Christmas story. A drink and a biscuit at the end of a morning of learning was also welcomed by the pupils. Please click here to see our photos.

We are so proud of how hard the Y4 children worked during our first Autumn term. We had a fantastic seven weeks and are now looking forward to our exciting Christmas half term. During our first week back, we will be time travelling, going back to Ancient Greece to find out who the Ancient Greek people were, when they lived and where, and how they were able to establish their empire. Our Ancient Greece History topic will look at how the political system worked in Ancient Greece, investigate the legacy of Athenian Democracy and compare it with the political systems we have today. We will also compare and contrast the modern day Olympics with the Ancient Greek events, learn about Ancient Greek religion and research information about a variety of Greek gods. We will be including Art, Design and Technology within our Ancient Greece topic work.

We are continuing our number work in Maths, covering subtraction, multiplication and division, and consolidating our times table knowledge up to 12 x 12. In English we will be reading Who Let The Gods Out by Maz Evans alongside the ancient story of the Trojan War using these to understand the difference between myths, stories and reality. We will be writing our own Greek myths and writing a balanced argument.

In PE we will be focusing on invasion games looking at core skills of dodging, kicking, dribbling, catching, attack and defence, and dance skills. In RE children will be learning about Diwali and why Christians celebrate Christmas. PSHE will focus on 'Celebrating Differences and in Music we are focusing on music theory through vocabulary and learning to play the glockenspiel. We will also be learning about how to stay safe when using the internet and some core computer programming skills.

Wow – what a busy term! We look forward to sharing the outcomes with out at our fab finish at 2.30pm on Monday 10th December.
