Curriculum Statement

Jewell ACADEMY CURRICULUM STATEMENT

‘There are no limits to what our children can achieve.’

At Jewell Academy, we put each of our children at the heart of everything we do. We believe deeply in the importance of helping our children develop as a whole person – happy and equipped with the knowledge and skills to take on the next stage of their learning journey and play an active and successful role in today’s highly competitive and fast-changing world. This is reflected in our curriculum which weaves together the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum and the three guiding principles of our Aspirations philosophy: Self-worth, Engagement and Sense of Purpose.

Our curriculum inspires a passion for learning, a spark that enables high levels of academic success across a broad range of subjects through providing a purposeful, relevant and authentic education for the world today. Our curriculum reflects our school culture and belief that there is no limit to what our children can achieve. Creative and engaging opportunities throughout the curriculum, ensures all children make increasing progress regardless of their starting point and this is embodied in our schools pedagogy which follows Rosenshine’s Principles.

Our curriculum is progressive, building on prior knowledge through key themes or concepts. We use driving questions alongside applied trans-disciplinary learning to ensure our children embed strong links across the curriculum. These questions drive our learning towards a real world outcome and final product which creates memorable links and outcomes children are proud of. Every aspect of our curriculum is underpinned by high quality texts and a language rich learning environment. We believe that our curriculum should reflect our children’s interests, abilities and needs and we capitalise on every opportunity to broaden our children’s experiences outside of the classroom ensuring their learning is meaningful, built upon and put into context.

Most importantly, our curriculum is an entitlement for all children. We celebrate difference, we develop the whole child and we are proud of all of our children’s achievements.
