Jewell, a school at the heart of the community

We nurture our students through their early years to ensure that they have positive, fulfilling and inclusive experiences whilst with us. They know friendship and acceptance are values that sit at the core of Jewell Academy and we pride ourselves on being at the heart of the community we serve. Dr Jeffery Quaye, National Director of Education and Standards for Aspirations Academies Trust, has high praise for Jewell. Following his recent monitoring visit, he said: “Jewell Academy provides high quality education in an environment where pupils feel valued and inspired with new, rich, and challenging learning opportunities. Teachers have high standards for both pupils’ learning and behaviour.” We look forward to welcoming you to Jewell Academy! Principal Alexandra Waddington & Vice-Principal Ali Sinclair.

Our School

Curriculum & Forest School

Our curriculum, which has a focus on reading and maths, weaves the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum together with the innovative Aspirations No Limits Curriculum. This combines traditional learning with the skills students need to thrive in the 21st century including problem solving, critical thinking and teamwork. Numerous school trips and visits complement classroom lessons. Our students know that what they do today impacts what they achieve tomorrow. The academic prowess of gifted and talented pupils is nurtured at Jewell and a handful each year successfully pass the 11+ entrance exam to secure a place at a prestigious Bournemouth grammar school. Our unique Forest School capitalises on the impressive outdoor space at Jewell. The weekly sessions, for students across all year groups, see them take part in activities including friction fire lighting and creating survival bracelets.

Our Curriculum

Reception & Pre-School

Our highly effective early years curriculum focuses on ‘learning through play’. Our large classrooms are well-stocked and resourced with ample room for young ones to play and amble around. Our Reception children follow the Government’s Early Years Foundation learning goals and in Key Stage One and Two, the National Curriculum is the basis for our structured planning. There is a focus on helping them to develop their vocabulary and encouraging a love for reading so that it stays with them for life. Our enviable outdoor space, which includes a garden and unique Forest School, allows acres of room for daydreams surrounded by nature. Our Reception and Pre-School staff excel at coming up with fun projects, trips and visits that help our pupils to develop skills such as problem solving, critical thinking and creativity.
