INTENT

At Jewell Academy, history is taught in a way that inspires curiosity and develops a knowledge and understanding of historical events and significant people of the past.  Our history curriculum develops the children’s understanding of the ways in which past events and significant people have shaped their own and wider world. Children are able to draw comparisons and make connections enabling them to develop their cultural awareness.

Implementation

History is taught chronologically and children learn about prehistoric times right through to the present day. History topics covered are brought to life for the children through museum and theatre trips, as well as, outside agencies visiting the school to offer specialised workshops and expert talks. These experiences not only enhance engagement and deepen learning but provide rich opportunities to children living in an area of significant deprivation.
